Green Haying in the Avon Valley – Volunteers Needed!
Wednesday 11 September 2013
Devon Wildlife Trust will be cutting hay from the South Hams District Council Site at Longmarsh, Totnes, raking up in dumpy bags and transporting to Dave Halsall’s site at Green Park Farm, Aveton Gifford. We have a 2 acre area which we seeded with yellow rattle last winter and we will be spreading the green hay onto there.
SHDC (Keith Rennells) have organised help from TCV (formerly BTCV) to help at Longmarsh, but we could do with some more volunteers especially when we transport the hay to the Aveton Gifford site where we will be manually scattering in!
Dave Halsall has promised to lay on a BBQ at close of play, …food is always a magical incentive.
It’s likely to be a long day, but an interesting/fulfilling one…
Would you be interested in volunteering to help us, especially at the Aveton Gifford site? If so, please get in touch and we can take from there. If people can only give an hour or two it would be greatly appreciated.
PS We chose the Longmarsh site because last year we had no donor sites. In future years, it would be great to think we could source local seed.
