BECOME A PARISH COUNCILLOR ON 7th MAY 2015!
Thursday 7th May 2015 will be election day in Bigbury as elsewhere! If you think you might like to serve your community as a parish councillor, this will be your best opportunity for 4 years. All serving councillors will need to stand for re-election, if interested, and because at least three of them have indicated that they do not intend to stand, this could be the opportunity for which you have been waiting! There will be at least three vacancies in Bigbury. Furthermore, we’d like to see more competition for all the councillor positions not just the empty seats! For various reasons it is important that our councillors are actually elected rather than being co-opted after the election process.
If you are interested in standing, you will need to obtain a NOMINATION PAPER PACK from the Clerk, Pam Trundle (Deben Reach, Parker Road, Bigbury-on-Sea: tel 01548 810719). The timetable and protocol are very precisely set out so don’t delay. If you’d like more information about what is involved, please contact the current Chairman of the council, Stuart Watts (tel. 01548 810373 or e-mail: stuart@bigburycommunity.co.uk).

Graveyard gate and wall repairs
The parish graveyard’s gate and walls at St Lawrence’s church are in need of repair and the parish council has allocated up to £5000 towards the costs. In addition, I am pleased to announce a grant of £930 from SHDC’s Sustainable Community Fund towards this project. Thanks are due to District Cllr Bryan Carson for sanctioning this award.
