PLANNING – MAKE YOUR VOICE COUNT
Bigbury Parish Council works hard to bring about the best result for local planning applications. These applications constitute the bulk of the council’s workload and the consultation process often involves striking a balance between opposing views. To help make your voice heard, South Hams District Council has put together a leaflet so that the public can engage more effectively with the Local Authority on planning issues. Although there is a wealth of information on their website, the following communication from DR SARAH WOLLASTON MP, brings together some of the more relevant points and signposts to more information; – http://www.drsarah.org.uk/contact/south-hams-district-council
Preliminary proposal for a new housing development at StAnn’s Chapel
As part of the usual Parish Council meeting on 12th March 2014, there will be a presentation about a possible future housing development at StAnn’s Chapel by the scheme’s originator. This presentation will be an important part of the required community consultation about what is, at the moment, a pre-application enquiry for planning permission.
A preliminary outline sketch showing the locatiion and the sort of scheme envisaged is available here – Cundy Estate SK131101 140109 Sketch Layout Draft
This will be your first public opportunity to comment on the proposal.
NOTE: At the February Parish Council meeting, councillors expressed their opposition to the scheme on a variety of grounds despite the inclusion of several allotments and some additional affordable housing.

BIGBURY NEWS – FEB 2014 edition
Rose has done a fantastic job in producing February’s Bigbury News from New Zealand! You can find this edition in the DOCUMENTS section of the Bigbury News GROUP.
NB Chris Yandell has asked for the following correction to be made to the ‘Shack Splash’ article which should read ‘ You are invited to join us on Friday 7th February from 6-7pm for a seafood nibble and a drink on us (i.e. NOT 8th!).
It would be fantastic to see you. Just ring 01548 810876 or email us at bigbury@oysterhsack.co.uk if you can come.’
REPORT ILLEGAL FISHING IN THE AVON
If you see suspicious fishing or netting activities either in the tidal part of the Avon, especially between the bridge at Aveton Gifford and Burgh Island, or around our coast please report it to the relevant authority as described in the following notice which carries all the relevant, updated phone numbers – Reporting of Suspected Fisheries Offences.
The ecology of the entire river, not just the estuary, depends upon your vigilance!
