I have only just come back to live in England and do not know much about how Parish Councils work and how the different posts in a Parish Council ‘work’. Is there a Job Description for each Post? If so could they be published on the website? How does an ignorant person like me know what to expect from a Councillor, Tree Warden, Footpath Warden or Clerk or Chairman? How do we interact/communicate with the Parish Council and about what topics? What does the community expect from these Post Holders? Can we ask the Parishioners what they think? Could we draw up a wish list of the ‘credentials’ of such post holders to help guide Parishioners on what to expect and guide Council members on ‘what is expected of them’ . Maybe a questionnaire on the website and Bigbury News ….’Describe the credentials you expect of a Councillor…. maybe..well known to local residents…knowledgeable about legal issues…good communicator verbal and digital…has sufficient time to devote to the post….easily approachable… etc etc.. I hope this enquiry is not just another job to do for you…its a genuine query. If you think its a helpful thing to do..to get more involvement from Parishioners..I would be pleased to assist in such a process if it helps to have my support by ‘interviewing’ you to describe what you do with some examples of things you have done for the Parish since you joined up..etc. Please let me know what you think about this idea.
