We would like to make residents aware that we have received a recent report of a telephone scam.
A male cold called a resident in South Hams by telephone call stating that he was from a telephone company working on the local exchange in the area (the caller knew the location and name of the local exchange site) and needed to check computer speeds and reprogramme a new channel from the exchange to the router.
The caller stated that the resident would be put through to their internet provider for a refund as the internet service had been slow, and was then told that the refund would be far more than it should be and he needed to refund the money to an account. This is a scam.
Please hand up on any similar calls, please pass this information on.
If you have any concerns or information please email 101@dc.police.uk, or phone 101.
